The Cochin Chamber of Commerce & Industry organized a Workshop on Contentious issues under Companies Act and Major Changes in Indirect Tax Laws on Saturday, 29th November 2014 at Hotel Abad Plaza, Cochin. Mr. Vijay Narayan Govind, Committee Member, Cochin Chamber of Commerce & Industry, delivered the Welcome address and introduced the Speakers. Mr. G. Shivdass, Executive Partner - Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan Attorneys, Bangalore and a Senior Lawyer and Eminent Tax Expert lead the morning session on Companies Law. The session covered critical topics such as Immediate action required by Companies, Provisions related to Private Companies, Related party transactions, Revised position of Companies, their Directors under the new Companies Act, 2013 and some other implications of the Act. The post lunch session was which lead by Mr. P.M. Prabhakaran, Joint Partner - Lakshmikumaran and Sridharan Attorneys were on the Major changes in Indirect Tax Laws. Some of the topics covered were Scope of Negative list and declared services, Abatements and Exemptions, Point of Taxation Rules and Reverse Charge Mechanism. The speakers also gave a brief on the proposed Goods and Services Tax which will be introduced in the current winter session of the Parliament. The interactive session which came to close by 6 pm was attended by more than 50 Industry professionals from various sectors.
